Now onboard the Ms Lofoten, a 62 year old coastal boat with my bike safely stowed -although it is taking the notion of a shipboard romance a bit too far by cuddling up with another bicycle.
We are cruising thru the Norwegian Fjords. Today we went up the Geiranger fjord – and are now heading back toward Ålesund then continuing on up north.
Henrik Ibsen’s mother-in-law, Magdalene Thoresen discribed the fjord as “surrounded by the steepest and, one is almost tempted to say, the most preposterous mountains on the entire west coast. It is very narrow and has no habitable shore area, for the precipitous heights rise in sheer and rugged strata almost straight out of the water. Foaming waterfalls plunge into the fjord from jagged peaks.” She wasn’t kidding.
The photo below is of Geiranger, I’m glad I am not cycling out of here up the Eagle road with its 11 hairpin turns, and that is just for starters.
